Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education, the Assistant Dean has responsibilities in the following areas: curriculum and enrollment management for the School of Education, collective bargaining and matters related to faculty and staff compliance with negotiated workloads, supervision of adjunct faculty, precepting undergraduate and graduate students in Education including coursework, and any areas of student concern such as grade changes, incompletes, independent studies, and internships consistent with University, School, and program policies, and graduation certification.  The Assistant Dean also oversees fiscal management of payments to adjunct faculty, faculty leaders, and faculty who teach overloads, and represents the University and School at events and programs with external partners.

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position unless stated otherwise.

Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education, the Assistant Dean will fulfill all of the responsibilities and expectations of Stockton staff as outlined in the University’s Policies and Procedures on Staff Evaluation.  Specifically, the Assistant Dean will serve in the following ways at Stockton:

Curriculum and Enrollment Management

  • Approves course offerings and faculty schedules as per University and School policy; enforces School policies regarding enrollments and permissions; independently evaluates enrollment expectations and manages outcomes; determines class cancellations, and makes other changes as per University and School policy
  • Collaborates with faculty, Assistant Deans, Student Records, and the Center for Academic Advising to maintain and update all Education courses and programs, including liberal arts programs with EDUC concentrations

Collective Bargaining

  • Participates in discussions related to collective bargaining as well as in confidential matters relating to faculty discipline and Union grievances
  • Assists the Dean and University by drafting recommendations relative to matters affecting collective bargaining and the development of management positions in negotiations, grievances, or other matters in all areas of assigned responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with locally negotiated Agreements

Faculty and Staff

  • Ensures compliance with negotiated faculty workload; addresses discrepancies directly with faculty, selects and implements necessary steps toward resolution
  • Work with the other Assistant Deans to coordinate issues across Schools, such as room scheduling, registration procedures, and new student registration
  • Supervises the adjunct faculty; coordinates recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and reappointment
  • Collaborates with staff of the Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center (SRI & ETTC) on P-12 outreach, grants, projects, and events
  • Serves as proxy to the Dean in approval of faculty and staff timesheets
  • Precepts undergraduates and graduate students in Education, as appropriate to areas of certification(s) and/or School needs
  • Handles all aspects of student concerns and complaints, including those involving faculty; has authority to resolve issues by developing appropriate methods and means; makes referrals to relevant offices and disciplinary bodies
  • Approves grade changes, incompletes, independent studies, and internships, consistent with University, School, and Program policies
  • Evaluates graduation certifications and has signatory authority in approval; resolves discrepancies in graduation audits; approves program distinction; develops and implements corrective measures when necessary to enforce University policies
  • Verifies budgets and payments for adjunct faculty, faculty leaders, and faculty overloads
  • Serves as proxy to the Dean in approval of requisitions

External Relations

  • Has independent responsibility to plan and execute events and publications for the School such as University commencements, open houses, orientations, program brochures, and Bulletin production
  • Represents the Dean in his/her absence; authorized to speak on behalf of the School to external constituencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Education and/or Provost and Vice President     
  • Support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • New Jersey Certification as Teacher, Supervisor, Principal, or Chief School Administrator

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience working in higher education
  • Minimum of three years experience related to management, course scheduling and curriculum, such as curriculum and enrollment
  • Experience or demonstrated ability with planning, enrollment trends, and data analysis
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse professionals
  • Experience or willingness to learn how to work with faculty and staff in a union environment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and work with project management and educational technologies including enterprise software and student information systems
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to update University, School, and Program promotional data and maintain accuracy of information on School website
  • Experience working with students.  Demonstrate ability to support diversity and student-centeredness
