This full-time position reports directly to the Executive Director of Academic Laboratories and Field Facilities and will supervise full time and part time NAMS Laboratory Staff. Flexible work schedule required including evenings and occasional weekends (i.e. academic year hours are 12 - 8pm).

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position unless otherwise stated.

Responsibility for Industrial Hygiene activities and safe laboratory practices

  • As the Academic Laboratories Safety and Chemical Hygiene Officer, assist in the development and implementation of health and safetypolicies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, and/or state laws, and/or College policies, regulations, and guidelines
  • Coordinate maintenance of all laboratories and field facilities and ensure clean and safe environment is maintained
  • Aid with laboratory accidents; coordinate filing of incident reports, proper medical forms, and maintain essential records and files
  • Provide support in and training for emergency situations. Coordinate these activities with Chief of Campus Police and the College’s Campus Health and Safety Officer
  • Provide and update all NAMS Safety Training for NAMS Faculty, Staff and Student Workers with regard to OSHA Lab Standard, Right toKnow, Hazardous Waste, Biosafety, IACUC, GHS, and Hazardous Materials
  • Performs safety inspections in all NAMS Laboratories and Field Facilities
  • Performs related work as required

Working in conjunction with Division Faculty coordinates all Biosafety and IACUC protocols

  • Maintain all records pertaining to Biosafety and IACUC protocols
  • Develop and implement training and update sessions in Biosafety and IACUC protocols for NAMS Faculty, Staff and Student Workers

Help coordinate scheduling and preparation activities for laboratory and field courses and supervise support staff

  • Assist with planning and scheduling of each semester’s and summer session’s academic laboratory sections as well as field courses
  • Aid with the NAMS operational budget
  • Provide general assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the use of laboratory facilities and equipment
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, policies, and procedures for overall laboratory operations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and/or the Director of the Academic Laboratories and Field Facilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS preferred) in biology, chemistry, or related fields from an accredited college
  • 5 years or equivalent experience in academic, industrial, medical laboratory or workplace safety programs
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies and oversight related to laboratory and workplace safety (i.e. OSHA, PEOSH, EPA, IACUC, radiation safety, BioSafety, state agencies and/or others)
  • Ability to receive certification as a Radiation Safety Officer and serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSCS training opportunity to be provided post-hire)
  • Excellent communication and computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and experience with chemical inventory software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer
  • Experience developing safety training programs
