This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position.

Stockton University will launch a new program, Digital Studies (DIGI), in 2022 Fall, and seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor, starting Sept. 1, 2022. For those candidates possessing the necessary experiences and credentials tenure-track appointment is a possibility

This inherently multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary DIGI program will be housed under the School of General Studies and will provide a practitioner-based curriculum by focusing on multiple synchronized courses that produce well-rounded digital generalists.

In order to produce digital generalists, the DIGI program will provide students with a wide variety of skills and understandings from digital studies, the visual arts, communication, computer information systems and marketing that will give them the agility and flexibility to flourish in a rapidly changing digital environment. In addition, graduates will be equipped with a mindset that embraces and utilizes emerging digital technology.

As the founding program faculty member, the successful candidate will lead the development of this new, interdisciplinary program and collaborate with faculty members in related programs and with administration. The successful faculty candidate will have broad knowledge and skills in emerging/immersive/interactive digital technology.

Under the direction of the Dean of General Studies, responsibilities include:

  • Develop and teach all levels of undergraduate DIGI courses, such as Intro to Digital Studies, UI/UX, Digital Design Theory and Principles, Digital Design Thinking, Game Design, AR/VR/MR, Advanced Web Development and special topics courses
  • Teach general education courses of their choice
  • Serve as preceptor to students
  • Maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship
  • Provide service to the department, school, university, and the community and/or the profession
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of General Studies and/or the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or MFA in emerging/immersive/interactive digital media, or other field directly related to digital studies
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in related courses
  • Expertise in and ability to teach digital game design, animation, or AR/VR principles and practice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full-time, higher-education teaching experience in a related field
  • Experience working collaboratively with faculty in other programs
  • Professional work experience in the digital field
  • Departmental administrative experience
  • Evidence of leadership and organizational skills
